- Intro
- Last week Pastor Adrian reminded us that we are “one in Christ”
- We are called to be bridge builders.
- To those who don’t necessarily look like us, or act like us.
- The call is to Go!
- “We are transformed by God to bring hope to others through Christ”
- We are called to be bridge builders.
- Matthew 28:19
- “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…”
- The reality of most of us is that most of us won’t go anywhere, we will remain right here, or in our normal day-to-day lives.
- Last week Pastor Adrian reminded us that we are “one in Christ”
- “And love your neighbor as yourself”
- Old Testament
- Deuteronomy 6:4-5
- Leviticus 19:18
- New Testament
- Matthew 22:37-40
- James 2:8
- Romans 13:8-10
- “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.
- Old Testament
- If it’s that easy, why is it so hard?
- It begs the question, why doesn’t the world look any different?
- The truth is, our resolve alone cannot bear the burden of the world’s brokenness. But Christ can.
- It begs the question, why doesn’t the world look any different?
- Love God with All…
- The good news for us today is that the command to love our neighbor as yourself is the second greatest commandment. It’s not the first.
- Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus speaking
- “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
- What Difference does it make?
- A world of difference
- God’s love in and through us
- Affirms value in others
- Causes us to identify with brokenness
- Holy Heartbreak
- Love moves
