All For One Part 2

Witness

Church of The Nazarene- East Rock

Today we are continuing our 4-part teaching series called “All For One”.

Our goal throughout this series is to grow in our understanding and participation in the Lord’s invitation to a life of surrendered living.

Lordship is essentially the recognition of God’s supreme authority in our lives and everything in it.

Today, we are going to talk about the witness, the story, that lordship living tells our world.

You don’t have to be rich and famous to make a difference, you just have to be faithful with what you have been given.

Jesus said YOU are the light of the world. One way you shine is by how you use what you’ve been given.

Matthew 5:14-16 NIV

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Luke 10:30-35 NIV

In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

Within the story, the Samaritan gives his time. Everyone else seems to be in a hurry, but the Samaritan stops. He takes time, not just out of one way, but over night and into the next.

The Good Samaritan also gives of his touch. He gives care for the wounds of this wounded man. He gave his compassion. The text says that he saw the man and took pity on him.

Finally, he gave of his financial resources. He paid for the man to have a night at a hotel and even he was even willing to be indebted to the innkeeper, if there were additional charges.

Jesus is telling this story to highlight, to witness to the crowd, what it means to really love, to really serve your neighbor. And he gives us a story of someone using their time, talent, treasure, and touch for the good of others.

Acts 9:39-40 NIV

Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.

Notice what resources Tabitha gave; robes and clothing. She gave garments to the poor. She used her talents with a needle and thread to impact her world.

Her life and faith in Jesus, motivated her friends and neighbors to go after Peter to see if he might be able to bring her back to life.

That’s the true impact of a life lived generously, giving of our resources. It not only meets needs and impacts others, it inspires them to greater faith.

That’s the witness of Lordship living.

Mark 12:41-44 NIV

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put In The Lord’s eyes, this poor widow gave every bit as much as Dolly Parton. It’s not about equal gifts, it’s about sacrifice.

That’s Lordship living in God’s economy.

These stories are 2000 years old, stories of everyday people, living in obscurity, and surrendered to the Lord in Lordship living. .And their life is still bearing witness, it’s still setting an example, it’s still challenging us today in 2026 on the other side of the world.

That’s the message friends.

These weren’t millionaires, they weren’t government leaders, they were everyday people who simply surrendered their lives to the Lord and used their resources to further the kingdom of God.

Friends you and I have this same opportunity before us today. We have everything we need, to live this kind of life, and to make this kind of impact.

The question is: Will you? Will i?

in everything—all she had to live on.”

It doesn’t matter if you are Dolly Parton rich, or dirt floor poor, you can impact the lives of others through your living and your giving.

Think about this story. The High King Of Heaven, Jesus Christ himself, was moved by the giving of two small coins, two pennies in our day. It moved his heart, because it’s all she had.

That is really important to hear today, and across this whole series. In Lordship living, it’s never about the amount you give. Its about what you do with what you have been given.
